AIGA Annual Year-End Fundraiser to Support Students Whose Work Focuses on Social, Environmental, and Cultural Impact

AIGA invites the community to participate in GivingTuesday and help raise $50,000 in support of scholarships for historically underrepresented students pursuing art and design

New York, NY—From now until the end of the year, AIGA will be raising scholarship funds to support students in photography, illustration, and graphic design—with a goal of raising $50,000 towards academic scholarships. Since 1995, the well-known AIGA Worldstudio Scholarships program has awarded $1.3 million to more than 800 college students to help increase diversity in the design profession and foster social and environmental responsibility in the artists, designers, studios, and companies of tomorrow. 

On November 29, AIGA invites its members and the public to celebrate the season of giving by participating in GivingTuesday—a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Impact stories will be shared across @AIGAdesign social media channels with the tag #AIGATogether for all to amplify with their networks

Financial support through scholarships, mentorship and internship opportunities, along with entry-level jobs can launch underrepresented designers into amazing careers," said Mark Randall, Associate Dean and Assistant Professor, Parsons School of Design Strategies, Founder and Creative Director, Worldstudio.

“Much of design is problem solving and coming up with solutions. By giving a voice to designers from all backgrounds, it encourages a diversity of ideas and unique solutions to some of the world's biggest challenges,” said Victor Davila, AIGA National Board of Directors and Associate Professor, University of Central Florida.

The AIGA Worldstudio Scholarships program increases diversity in the creative professions by removing financial barriers and providing equitable opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their educational goals. Scholarships are awarded annually to students with positive social agendas who are studying photography, illustration, and design disciplines in colleges and universities in the United States. Students are selected not only for their talent and their need, but also for their demonstrated commitment to giving back to the community through their work.
