Chapter Mentorship Programs

AIGA chapters around the country provide mentorship programs to local high school students, college students, emerging designers, and seasoned professionals. Learn about how you can take advantage of your local chapter's mentorship opportunities.

AIGA Arizona

The AIGA AZ Mentorship Meetup events provide our creative community with leadership and learning opportunities. Each event focuses on a topic chosen by the community. Design leaders in the topic area are selected as mentors (panelists). Serving as a mentor is a great opportunity to get experience at public speaking in addition to mentorship. Mentees (participants) can discover new insights into a topic of interest.

AIGA Atlanta’s mentoring program "Rise Up," founded in 2015, pairs emerging designers and students with established design professionals. The goal of the program is to empower individuals and strengthen the bonds in the design community.

AIGA Blue Ridge

AIGA Blue Ridge is proud to produce its Emerge Mentorship Program. This program aims to connect emerging designers with current creative professionals through a four-month, one-on-one mentoring engagement. Designers will be able to share insights and experiences, as well as grow their skillsets. This a great way to make new connections and exchange ideas and inspirations.

The AIGA Chicago Mentor Program offers creatives from across disciplines a safe space to gather and share insights, experiences and resources. With the support from our community, we are able to curate our mentor programming. This program helps guide and grow designers at any level of experience through focused mentor groups that are based on our community’s needs.

AIGA Cincinnati

The Embark Mentorship Program engages the design community and fosters relationships by cultivating the career growth and professional success of emerging designers — those with 0-5 years of experience. It brings together design professionals in a short-term, one-on-one mentoring relationship with an emerging designer in the Cincinnati area. In the beginning, the pair will embark on a journey together to identify the mentee’s goals, and create a customized plan to be tackled over the next four-month period.

AIGA Colorado

We real­ize that learning doesn’t stop when you leave the class­room with a degree in hand. In fact, that’s when it really starts. New tech­nolo­gies and expand­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties require new skills. Designers are con­stantly evolv­ing to remain rel­e­vant, cre­ative and prof­itable. This is an excit­ing time to be a pro­fes­sional designer, but it can also be tricky to keep up or set the pace. That’s why AIGA Colorado cre­ated the Robert Taylor Professional Grant. Each year, AIGA NY connects a select group of professionals from the design industry and allied fields with individuals who are starting off in their careers to help them accelerate their career, personal and leadership growth. The program is free and is open to both AIGA NY and non-AIGA NY members.

AIGA Orlando

In the AIGA Orlando Mentorship program talented students work closely and diligently for four months, under the guidance of the local design professional they're paired with, to create a self-promotional project. The final projects are showcased in a capstone exhibition called SPOT, and the two best are chosen—one by the public and one by a panel of judges.

Launched over ten years ago, the AIGA Philadelphia chapter offers a Mentorship Program that engages professionals in a short-term, one-on-one mentoring relationship with fellow practitioners primarily in the Philadelphia area. Although with these unprecedented times we’re currently offering this program to anyone in the United States to be taken advantage of in the virtual sense.

Portland’s Mentorship Program is designed to connect student designers with professional mentors from our own creative community.
During the eight-week program mentees & mentors meet weekly for digital one-on-one sessions. The program is lightly structured to maximize flexibility with the individuals’ pre-established goals and expectations.

LINK connects students between the ages of 14-19 with art and design professionals through engaging workshops and mentorship. Each workshop is a hands-on opportunity to learning new skills and working in different mediums.

AIGA Washington DC

SHINE, a peer-to-peer mentoring program, is designed to fertilize the career growth and professional success of emerging designers. Starting with a kick-off event in early January, mentors and mentees come together and work hand-in-hand to identify the mentee’s career goals and aspirations. Over the next four months, mentors provide advice and guidance as they show their mentees the ropes.
